Maldivian Democratic Party has revealed that 3 people are to compete in the party presidential primaries and 2 people are to compete for Chairpersonship. The names of the candidates competing in the elections were revealed at a news conference held at Dharubaaruge by the chairman of the committee overseeing the elections Mohamed Rasheed Hussain.
The names of candidates competing in party presidential elections and their candidate numbers are as follows. Candidate number 1 Dr Mohamed Munnawar, Candidate number 2 Reeco Moosa Manik , Candidate number 3 Mohamed Nasheed (Anni).
The candidates proposing competing in the elections for party chairpersonship are, candidate number 1 Mohamed Nazim, Candidate number 2 Maria Ahmed Didi.
Under article 7 of the party governing regulations the party’s presidential candidate will the person who receives most votes in the presidential primaries held by the party. The election is monitored and supervised by 5 member committee elected by the National Governing Council of the party.
On February 20, the National Governing Council at its 48 th meeting decreed that they will open the presidential primaries on the 24 of last month and will be closed on the 3 of March. On the 24 of last month National Council elected Mohamed Latheef to take over the responsibilities of Chairperson temporarily due to resignation of party’s Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed (Anni).
