President as well as presidential candidate of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) Umar Naseer has said that his ongoing visits to the atolls are not campaign visits. He said his visits are just visits to introduce himself to the people of the atolls. He made the statement in response to a question posed by Miadhu Daily asking for a clarification of the party’s statements that ongoing visits of President Gayoom to the atolls are mere campaign visits and Umar Naseer’s visits were not.Umar pointed out that visits to the atoll were made with the intention of getting to know the people and their general living conditions better as well as to introduce him. Umar said campaigning means asking the people to voter for him.
“What I am saying is consider my proposals carefully as well as other candidate’s proposals and vote in a responsible manner; that is my message” Umar said.
Saying that he has yet to ask people to vote for him Umar said “President Gayoom is traveling on a government launch guarded by security personnel and saying that I am DRP presidential candidate and I am going to run for re elections, now is it not campaigning?.” Umar pointed.
Further Umar said that he is being well received and that there is tremendous support for his policies
