MDP welcomes single candidate concept to represent Alliance

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that the party would welcome the idea to bring out a single candidate to represent the National Unity Alliance NAU). MDP however said that a final decision on the matter would be made following the completion of party presidential primaries to elect a presidential candidate. The decision was made at the meeting of party’s 50th National Council held last Wednesday night after a vote following a heated debate.
The matter which was to be considered in a closed session was later changed to an open one following a vote taken whether to conduct the deliberation in an open meeting or closed session. The majority was in favor of an open session. This was proposed by party’s vice President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki and was seconded by Ibrahim Didi. Third on agenda was appointing a member to the Committee overseeing party presidential primaries to fill the seat vacated by Maria Ahmed Did following her resignation from the committee to compete in the race for chairpersonship. Hussain Ibrahim member of the national council was appointed to the committee.
