3 Contenders to Fight for the MDP’s Presidential Ticket

Three contenders have put forward their names to fight over Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Presidential ticket which will be decide by the party’s members in the MDP Presidential Primaries. The three contenders are Dr. Mohamed Munnavaru, who had earlier said that he will be competing, Ex Chairperson Mohamed “Anni” Nasheed, who resigned from his high profile council portfolio “to accomplish some personal vision” and Parliament Member for Handhunmathi Moosa “Reeko” Manik.

In a meeting held at the Dharubaaruge the names of the candidates were arranged. Dr. Munnavaru got 1, while Moosa Manik got 2 and Nasheed got 3. The names were arranged in the presence of the media and were arranged by using a draw system.

Nasheed said that the chances for a free and fair election in Maldives were relatively small. He however noted that even if the election is half fair, the MDP will strive to win about two quarters of the voter’s percentage. They confidently said that from November 11 this month, the Maldives will be ruled by MDP.

All the candidates said that they have attributed great services to the party and that they were 100% sure that they will win the primaries.

Although all the candidates are confident of a win, it is fact that the party ticket will be awarded to the contender with the largest amount of votes, and that only one of these three brave men will be able to rock on a party ticket.
