No plans to be a Minister for long time - Nasheed

Minister of Legal Reform Information and Arts Mohamed Nasheed has said that he has no plans to remain as a cabinet minister for a long period of time. Minister Nasheed made the statement speaking on HFM radio last night.

Minister Nasheed said that he was in the cabinet to assist a specific person to implement the reform agenda and that once the job is done he will return to where he came from. He said even if President Gayoom wins another term, he has no plans to remain as a minister and that once the reform agenda is complete he will return to where he was before.

Speaking on his political future Minister Nasheed further said he does not believe that the present freedom of press is due to any work carried out by group of reporters or by any other organization. He further said that he did not receive a single proposal from any reporter or an individual or a specific organization towards opening up the media.

Minister Nasheed was appointed as Minister of Legal Reform Information and Arts on 31 October 2007. Till then he served as Minister of Information and Arts. He was appointed to the cabinet on 14 July 2005.

Minister Nasheed was regarded as the champion of the recently gained press freedom when he facilitated all the news papers and magazines that were denied registration previously.
