Dr. Hassan to start campaign trips to atolls

Former Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed has said that Dr. Hassan Saeed former Attorney General would commence his campaign trips to the atolls next Wednesday. Dr. Hassan Saeed has announced that he will compete for the presidency in the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled later in the year. Dr. Hassan has also revealed that he will stand elections as an independent candidate.

Dr. Shaheed informed that Dr. Hassan would first visit islands of North Maldives. He also said that Dr. Hassan has already commenced his campaign activities.

Dr. Hassan already a leading presidential hopeful had revealed his presidential manifesto on 29 February 2007. The manifesto mainly constitutes of 12 key parts. In this regard to unite the religious divisions already existent in the country, to upgrade the educational system to international standards, to improve the health sector to the levels expected by the people, to provide employment opportunities, to protect the rights of the workers, and to provide adequate shelter to the people.

The manifesto also included promises to wipe out drug abuse from the country, to establish fair and impartial judiciary as well as to improve foreign relations.
