MP for Male’ as well as Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Special Majlis Ibrahim Ismail (Ibra) has stated that even though Speaker Qasim wants to complete the transitional chapter by 1400 hours of 13 March, such a deadline was only an illusion.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily Ibra said a completion date for the transitional chapter cannot be given. He said even though work is being carried out at to the solve the differences of the two main parties on the chapter, he does not even have a complete panel due to 3 panel members abstaining from work. He said considering the current status quo he is unable to estimate a dead line for the completion.
In a letter sent to the Drafting Committee members last Monday , Speaker Qasim had said the earliest date by which a Majlis session can be scheduled was last Thursday and that transitional chapter has to be sent to the Majlis by then.
“During the recent past Majlis sessions were not scheduled as there not much work to be done, now that People’s Majlis sessions are ongoing, Special Majlis session can be scheduled either on 13, 16 or 23 of this month, as Drafting Committee has not submitted the draft transitional chapter to the Majlis as of now, a session of the Special Majlis will not be scheduled on 13 of this month” indicated Speaker Qasim in his letter.
Speaker Qasim further pointed out that he had intentions to schedule a session on the 23 of this month and that to submit the draft of the transitional chapter to the Majlis by 1400 hours of 13 March latest.
